With the recent push for Web Standards and increased Usability and Accessibility Standards it amazes me how many high-end websites there are that are absolutely ugly. Just because you follow Web Standards and Usability guidelines does not mean that your site has to look like the red headed step child that most designers make them. Learning how to make static text look beautiful is not an easy task, but it is a good skill set to learn...so learn it!
